Thank you for visiting An Eclectic Gent. I'm Luke O' Neil and the 'man behind the gent' so to speak with risk of sounding pretentious.
Having worked in creative roles for over 20 years I've always pursued a passion for painting and interior design in my spare time. Over the last 5 years I've been drawn more and more to the medium of painting as an expression of the thoughts and feelings I experience in quite an abstract way through dreams and meditation.
Each of my original abstract paintings has a meditative aspect where the act of painting becomes a serene and reflective process for me. By layering paint and using different mediums, I reveal intricate patterns and create rich textures that invite viewers to explore the depths of each piece. Experimenting with inks allows me to craft unique fonts and hidden messages, adding an element of mystery and discovery to my work.
My creative process is deeply influenced by the music I listen to, with many pieces named after songs by artists like Kate Bush ELO and David Bowie. The rhythms and melodies guide my hand, infusing my art with the emotional resonance of the music.
If you'd like to commission a piece of art from me or have a creative project you'd like to discuss please get in touch.
My art style is heavily influenced by nature and the beauty of the world around us. As I paint, I draw inspiration from the natural world, the vivid imagery of my dreams, and the tranquil moments of meditation. This intuitive approach results in art that is both expressive and evocative, offering glimpses into otherworldly realms and the inner landscapes of the imagination. I'm also fascinated by ancient textiles and tapestries and like to play with patternation to almost regard the paint as an extension of the fabric canvas.
I'm an avid collector of original ceramic pieces and have a paticular passion for Troika & Majolica. You'll see my personal collection feature a lot in my photography.
My interior style is eclectic to the core (hence Eclectic Gent) mixing antiques, original art, textiles, ceramics and charity shop finds! Maxilmalism makes me smile.
